Former Third-Round Pick Impressing at Steelers Camp

The Pittsburgh Steelers have been waiting for Roman Wilson to have a breakthrough, and it appears that time has finally come. Wilson was drafted by Pittsburgh in the third round of the 2024 draft. He was a key piece to Michigan’s 2023 CFP championship. Since then, there hasn’t been much, if anything, to write home about.

Roman Wilson Steelers Career

Roman Wilson’s young career has been injury riddled to say the least. His rookie year was all but a wash. He suffered an ankle injury that kept him out of 16 of the Steelers 17 games. In 2025, he appeared in 15 games but never provided any offensive output. He totaled only 166 yards on twelve catches. If there was ever a year for Wilson to come into his own, it’s the 2026 season.

High Praise from QB Aaron Rodgers

Wilson has reportedly been a breakout star during Steelers fall camp. He’s been getting meaningful first team reps and showing glimpses of his Michigan days, which is the reason Pittsburgh drafted him in the first place.

Aaron Rodgers has been speaking very highly of Wilson’s training camp efforts. He appeared on the “Pat McAfee Show” and had this to say about the third-year man out of Michigan. “Roman’s grown a lot. I think he’s done a nice job in the spring, and he’s had some play as well. The difference last year, I felt like he was kinda like a deer running around, bouncing around. And now he’s like a very finely tuned fast guy.”

That’s high praise from the future first ballot hall of famer. Wilson will surely see his snaps increase this season. After losing key weapons in Calvin Austin, Kenneth Gainwell, and Johnu Smith, someone will need to step up.

Why Roman Wilson Fits in This Pittsburgh Offense

Alongside DK Metcalf and newly acquired Michael Pittman Jr, Wilson will fit perfectly into the Steelers receiving core. Standing two inches taller and 20 pounds heavier, he has the ability to fill the hole of WR3 left by Austin’s departure, while taking on a larger role in the offense. If Wilson is able to make that leap this season, the noise surrounding him being a bust will surely quiet.
