Former Titans Starter Waived By Second Team This Offseason

The Tennessee Titans have only won 16 games over the last three years, including a brutal three-win season in 2024. This lack of success is due in large part to the franchise's inability to effectively draft and develop players.

Poorly structured contracts and bad free agent signings have also been a part of the equation, but players like Treylon Burks and Will Levis are just the tip of the iceberg for draft picks that did not pan out.

While the jury is still out on first-round guard Peter Skoronski and No. 7 overall pick JC Latham, the Titans' offensive line woes in recent years could largely be traced to a few specific sources.

One of these sources was Nicholas Petit-Frere, an offensive tackle who the team drafted in the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft. The Ohio State product was either injured or ineffective in his three years with the franchise, and he was waived this offseason by new general manager Mike Borgonzi.

Shortly after, he was given another chance in the NFL with the San Francisco 49ers. However, on Tuesday, ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter reported that Petit-Frere had been waived by the 49ers, marking the second time he had been released this offseason.

Petit-Frere played in 34 contests for the Titans in three years, starting 28. While he played 97% of the team's offensive snaps as a rookie, that number dropped dramatically over the following two years.

He was also Pro Football Focus' 122nd ranked offensive tackle last year among the 140 players who qualified for a rating. Petit-Frere's highest overall grade was a 52.3, which he earned during his first professional campaign.

Although he is not the Titans' problem anymore, it is difficult for a franchise to see players struggle when they invested high draft capital in them. Now, he will look to find another place to land in the NFL, while Tennessee continues to invest in offensive tackle Dan Moore Jr, who they acquired in free agency.
