Former Tennessee Vols wide receiver Jauan Jennings generated some headlines earlier this week thanks a report from ESPN's Adam Schefter.
According to Schefter, Jennings either wants the 49ers to give him a new contract or trade him.
Jennings is in the final year of a two-year extension he signed in 2024. The former Vol is set to earn $7.5 million this season.
"Jennings has approached the 49ers about his request, but little progress has been made, a source told ESPN," wrote Schefter. "If a new deal is not reached by the time training camp starts next week, Jennings plans to request a trade to a team willing to pay him."
Schefter also reported that Jennings doesn't plan to hold out of training camp when it gets underway later this month.
"He is not expected to be a training camp holdout, but he is not expected to be happy, either, as the 49ers saw last summer with Aiyuk," noted Schefter.
On Wednesday, Schefter reported on NFL Live that several teams have already asked the 49ers about Jennings.
The 49ers, however, have no interest in trading Jennings.
"Several teams have already inquired about Jauan Jennings' availability, but the 49ers said they have no desire in trading the wide receiver," said Schefter.
This certainly puts Jennings in quite a pickle. If Jennings isn't going to hold out of camp, then he essentially has no leverage to force the 49ers' hand.
Holding out would go against everything that Jennings stands for as an elite competitor. But if he wants to get paid what he deserves, it might be the only choice he has.
It's obviously something Jennings doesn't want to do, but it might be something he has to do.
