With the Arizona Cardinals expected to release quarterback Kyler Murray, attention quickly turned to potential new teams for the No. 1 pick in the 2019 NFL Draft.
And while Murray's NFL career has had more downs than ups recently, the talent that made the Cardinals initially view him as a franchise QB will likely lead to multiple teams believing he may still have untapped potential.
In seven seasons with Arizona, Murray threw for 20,460 yards and rushed for 3,193 . However, he couldn't turn the Cardinals into a consistent winner, going 38-48-1 as starter.
Here are potential landing spots for Murray:
To everyone that supported me and showed kindness to my family and I during my time in AZ, from the bottom of my heart, thank you.

I wanted nothing more than to be the one to end the 77 year drought for this organization, I am sorry I failed us. I wish this community and my…
Miami may be hesitant to turn to Murray, feeling as if he's too similar to Tua Tagovailoa, who Miami probably will release. But they may be desperate enough and believe Murray has the higher upside.
After consecutive losing seasons (7-10 and 8-9), the Dolphins desperately need a spark. If Miami can't sign the highly coveted Malik Willis, an impending free agent who played well for the Packers in 2025, Murray would be a cheaper backup plan.
Shedeur Sanders is the presumptive starter in 2026. But there are plenty of reasons why Cleveland would want a good veteran option to push Sanders, who had far more poor than stellar moments as a rookie (1,400 passing yards, seven TD passes, 10 interceptions).
It's also possible the Browns have the perfect coach for Murray at this pivotal point in his career. As offensive coordinator in Baltimore, new Browns HC Todd Monken worked well with Lamar Jackson, a far more accomplished QB with similar attributes as Murray.
Murray could be an instant starter for the Jets, who have good weapons in WR Garrett Wilson and RB Breece Hall. If New York is nervous about going all-in on an unproven hot commodity like Willis, Murray would be a safer and less expensive.
The Steelers will undoubtedly look for another experienced QB if Aaron Rodgers retires rather than returning to Pittsburgh for a reunion with new HC Mike McCarthy.
Murray may even view joining the Steelers as a chance to play for a contender, at least compared to the other teams listed, and learn from McCarthy, a coach widely known for getting the most out of quarterbacks.
Despite Rodgers' strong season overall in 2025, Pittsburgh's offense wasn't consistently explosive. Murray's speed would help make up for issues in a way Rodgers, 42, simply can't now.
