Greg Olsen name-drops Tom Brady after receiving Sports Emmy

On Tuesday night, Greg Olsen won the Sports Emmy Award for Outstanding Personality/Event Analyst for his final season serving as Fox's lead NFL analyst before Tom Brady takes over later this year.

Olsen joked about the matter during his acceptance speech.

"I think there’s a lot of people wondering what I’m going to say right now," Olsen remarked, per Matt Ehalt of the New York Post. "Coming into tonight, people asked me, they say, 'What’s your biggest threat to your future in the business?' And everyone’s like, 'Oh, Brady and this,' and I think it’s Andy from 'Toy Story.' If he gets in, [NBC's Cris Collinsworth], [ESPN's Troy Aikman], we’re dead. But I really appreciate it."

Damian Burchardt of The Sun noted that Olsen seemed to be referring to certain alternate NFL broadcasts offered to fans throughout recent seasons.

Brady and Fox agreed to a 10-year deal reportedly worth $375M before Olsen emerged as arguably the top NFL in-game analyst in the business. Olsen's popularity isn't stopping Fox from relegating him to the No. 2 announcing team for the upcoming campaign. That demotion will cause Olsen's salary to go from $10M per season to $3M until further notice.

"This is super cool," Olsen added during his comments, according to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk. "I don’t know what the future holds. All I know is I love talking football, I love talking ball. I love studying it. I love seeing where the game is going. Wherever that takes me, whatever level it is, I’m more committed to the game of football now. My wife allows me to chase this every weekend after 15 years of a weird life of moving all around the country playing the game. Now I fly around the country calling a game."

Brady's agreement with Fox allegedly impacts his desire to become a minority owner of the Las Vegas Raiders this offseason. Some still doubt Brady will ever call games for Fox or any network across an entire decade, while others believe he could pursue an eighth career Super Bowl ring as a player if an advertised contender needs an emergency quarterback in December or January.

Regardless of Brady's intentions, Olsen has little choice but to remain with Fox through the upcoming season considering none of the NFL's national media partners have lead-analyst openings ahead of Memorial Day.
