Frankie Luvu challenges Commanders teammates as second-year pressure mounts

The Washington Commanders achieved more than anyone thought possible last season. Frankie Luvu doesn't want anything less than excellence this time around, either.

Few signings made by the Commanders during Adam Peters' drastic roster overhaul last year made a bigger impact than Luvu. He was seen as an underrated second-level presence with the scope to grow further in the right fit. He chose Washington over others, and it was a shrewd decision.

Luvu was nothing short of sensational. His partnership with Bobby Wagner set the tone through exceptional production and inspirational leadership. Both earned second-team All-Pro honors, which was a testament to how impactful they were as the Commanders surged into legitimate contention.

Frankie Luvu wants Commanders to maintain the same standards in 2025

The former undrafted free agent out of Washington State wants this to be the new standard. Luvu laid down the gauntlet to his teammates, firmly stating that last season's accomplishments don't matter anymore. This is all about the future, and putting in the hard yards now is going to reap rewards when the real action arrives.

I know it's unfinished business. We left a lot out there last year, but last year was last year. This year is a new beginning, new start. We just gotta do the work now so when the time does come, we can celebrate.Frankie Luvu via Commanders.com

There was no doubt a sense of satisfaction among everyone who gave to the cause in 2024. But the page has been turned, and the Commanders have their sights set on similar or perhaps even better fortunes next time around.

Luvu will be at the heart of everything good once again. His fiery personality and unrivaled passion are traits that his teammates naturally gravitate towards. He sets high standards and gives nothing but maximum effort at all times. He demanded the same from his teammates, and they responded accordingly during a campaign to remember.

The collective purpose in the locker room ensures complacency won't become an issue. Dan Quinn and his staff set out their stall early in preparations. They trust the player to self-police standards and keep everyone on an even keel amid newfound adulation and expectations. Luvu will be at the forefront, and he won't be alone.

And after coming so close to reaching the Super Bowl last season, it's only left Luvu hungrier to go one better in 2025. That's a scary proposition for anyone unfortunate enough to come into his path next season.
