Gable Steveson improved to 3-0 with a first-round TKO of Hugo Lezama at Mexico Fight League 3 in Monterrey in their heavyweight clash.

Steveson entered the cage at a career-low 249 pounds, looking leaner and more agile than last year. Despite Lezama’s attempt to disrupt the rhythm with an unorthodox striking style, Steveson remained unfazed. Steveson stuffed an early takedown attempt from Lezama with ease. Steveson repeatedly allowed Lezama to return to his feet after takedowns, choosing instead to pick his shots and test his striking.

After absorbing a spinning wheel kick that tested his chin, Steveson secured a final takedown and transitioned into a heavy ground-and-pound assault. The referee stepped in at the 3:50 mark of Round 1. Following the victory, the attention will turn to whether Steveson will secure a UFC contract.

“I feel great. A lot of things to get better on, but I’m getting better each day. [It was a] tough fight, the guy didn’t give up. A great competitor. I’m glad he stepped in,” Steveson said
