Garrett Wilson stayed humble when discussing his incredible catch

New York Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson made what might prove to be the catch of the year on Thursday, but he was not quite willing to embrace the comparisons with another famous grab.

Wilson was roundly praised for his outstanding touchdown catch in Thursday’s win over the Houston Texans at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, Wilson made the one-handed grab, then managed to get a foot and a shin down in bounds for a game-changing touchdown.

Naturally, the catch drew comparisons with the grab Odell Beckham Jr. made in the same stadium 10 years prior, but Wilson was not completely embracing them.

“Odell’s was different. And he got two feet down. The ball was gonna land out of bounds. It’s Odell, man. Odell against the Cowboys. That was the one. For that to even come up in that (conversation), I’m blessed.”

When one reporter pointed out that the Giants actually lost the game in which Beckham made his famous catch, Wilson had a funny response.

“Alright. Fair enough,” Wilson grinned.

The Jets did go on to win the game, so Wilson’s effort was not in vain. In fact, that could turn out to be a season-changing win for the team.

For many, Beckham’s grab will still be definitive. Wilson is right, though — it’s remarkable that his catch is worthy of the comparison. He should be proud.
