New York Giants running back Cam Skattebo has been working hard in his rehab. The 23-year-old suffered a season-ending ankle injury in Week 8 against the Philadelphia Eagles . The unfortunate development cut Skattebo’s season short. In eight games played, the former Arizona State Sun Devils standout registered 101 carries for 410 yards and five rushing touchdowns. Skattebo also added 24 catches for 207 yards and two receiving TDs.
On Tuesday, Giants general manager Joe Schoen provided a crucial update on Skattebo’s road to recovery. The high-ranking team executive had some good news on their star RB heading into the NFL offseason.
Skattebo suffered a dislocated right ankle in early October. He was rushed to a nearby hospital after leaving the Eagles game. Skattebo underwent surgery just hours after. He immediately started rehab and was able to shed his walking boot earlier this month.
Speaking to the press during the unveiling of new head coach John Harbaugh, Schoen revealed that Skattebo is making considerable progress in his road to recovery. In fact, Schoen announced that the second-year RB is expected to be ready for the start of OTAs (organized team activities).
"He'll be fine," Schoen said. "He'll actually be prepared for the offseason program on April 6th. He should be good."
Schoen’s statement indicates how far along Skattebo is in his rehab. OTAs start in less than three months, and the team fully expects their star running back to be back on the field by then.
Skattebo’s goal has always been to be ready for Week 1 of the 2026 season, and this statement from Schoen strongly suggests that the Giants RB is going to be in the starting lineup for New York’s season opener.
