The wide receiver/special teams returner suffered the injury late in the first half of the Giants’ Week 4 win over the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday.
New York signed the 31-year-old to a one-year deal during the offseason after primary kick returner Gunner Olszewski suffered a torn Achilles during OTAs this summer. The Giants also brought Berrios in as a depth piece for their wide receiver corps. Berrios’ experience as a kick and punt returner also factored into Big Blue signing him.
The Giants will now be without Berrios for the rest of the season after he made the 53-man roster following the aforementioned Olszewski Achilles injury. Through four games this season, Berrios racked up 138 yards on five kickoff returns and 10 yards on four punt returns.
As a receiver, Berrios was targeted just once this year, this past Sunday against Arizona, and it was an incompletion.
With Berrios done for the year, the Giants will likely turn to Charlie Jones as their kick returner. Jones, who was signed off the practice squad on September 29, racked up 29 yards on two punt returns and 69 yards on three kickoff returns.
Other options for New York are running back Tyrone Tracy Jr., who notably had a 55-yard return against the Cardinals on Sunday, as well as wide receivers Jalin Hyatt and Dalen Cambre, who are currently on the Giants’ practice squad.
