Running back Cam Skattebo and the New York Giants were feeling the love in their season opener against the Dallas Cowboys, and Skattebo wants the rowdy vibes to continue this weekend at MetLife Stadium.

Skattebo again challenged the Giants fan base to get rowdy for their third home game of the season Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals.

The second-largest NFL crowd at MetLife Stadium (83,286) supported the Giants through their 28-20 win over Dallas in coach John Harbaugh’s debut Sept. 13. An announced crowd of 79,019 was on hand despite a nor’easter for the 12-7 win over the Tennessee Titans last Sunday.

Cam Skattebo Challenged Giants Fans Again

Sunday’s weather forecast looks good, so the scene is set for another raucous atmosphere despite the 1 p.m. ET start.

Skattebo effectively begged for it Thursday.

“We have 14 more games to play at minimum,” Skattebo said. “We have to continue to bring our fan base in, have people coming in and giving their efforts and spirit to us. Teams are built off of what’s surrounding them.”

Skattebo likely saw what the Knicks did for New York City in the spring, and he wants the Giants to bring the New York metro area together in similar fashion.

“When you get that camaraderie from the people around you in your city, the people walking down the street when you’re going to the grocery store, you feel better about yourself when people are talking to you about how good the Giants are,” Skattebo said. “That makes you feel better, and when you come in the building, your football team is better because everyone feels that way, and I think if we continue to have the city of New York, the state of New Jersey, continue to build on what we have, I think we’re going to be just fine.”

The Giants Are Celebrating the 1986 Team on Sunday

The Giants will be tapping into their history by celebrating the 40th anniversary of the 1986 Super Bowl championship team. They’ll be sporting their royal-blue legacy jerseys, with their navy helmets with “GIANTS” on the side.

Many probably remember the rabid atmosphere at then-Giants Stadium throughout Big Blue’s two home playoff games, where they outscored the opposition 66-3. That’s the type of atmosphere Skattebo is surely hoping for.

Giants fans have not been accustomed to home-field advantage in this era. They are 21-30-1 at MetLife Stadium in the 2020, but Harbaugh has been adamant about going 1-0 each week, which Skattebo echoed Thursday.

“You have to continue to win in the moment, and I think … that’s what we’re focused on,” Skattebo said. “We’re thinking about the Arizona Cardinals and what we’re playing this week. The 1-0 is focusing on this week and going 1-0 each week.”
