The New York Giants added depth to their defensive line Wednesday by claiming former Wisconsin defensive lineman Ben Barten off waivers from the New York Jets.

NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo reported the move on X, formerly known as Twitter.

“The #Giants claimed DL Ben Barten off waivers from the #Jets. Short drive to his next gig.”

The move brings Barten back to the Giants after the team originally signed him as an undrafted free agent following the 2026 NFL Draft. New York waived Barten on July 30 before the Jets claimed him and added him to their roster. The Jets later waived him, opening the door for his return to the Giants.

Barten started 24 consecutive games over his final two seasons at Wisconsin. The defensive lineman recorded 24 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, one sack and two pass deflections during his final college season in 2025.

The Giants’ decision to bring Barten back comes as they continue preparations for their second preseason game against the Miami Dolphins on Saturday at 4 p.m. ET on NFL Network.

Barten will now have another opportunity to earn a roster spot with the organization that gave him his first NFL opportunity. His familiarity with the Giants could help him quickly reintegrate as New York evaluates its defensive line depth during the remainder of the preseason.
