The New York Giants will look within their own roster for help after Braxton Berrios suffered a foot injury in Sunday’s win over the Arizona Cardinals. Coach John Harbaugh said the team plans to rely primarily on its internal options while Berrios is sidelined.

Berrios was placed on injured reserve Monday, meaning he will miss at least four games. He had served as the Giants’ primary returner through the first four weeks of the season.

According to Jordan Raanan of ESPN, Harbaugh said Charlie Jones will handle the returner role, while Jalin Hyatt and Dalen Cambre remain options from the practice squad. Raanan also reported that Berrios is expected to miss some time.

Jones already stepped into the role after Berrios left Sunday’s 36-24 victory. He finished with two punt returns for 29 yards and three kickoff returns for 69 yards, giving the Giants an immediate replacement with experience in the return game.

Berrios had five kickoff returns for 138 yards and four punt returns for 10 yards before the injury. The 30-year-old signed with New York in June after Gunner Olszewski suffered a season-ending ACL injury during the offseason.

Hyatt provides another option at wide receiver if the Giants need additional depth. The 2023 third-round pick has 36 receptions for 470 yards over his NFL career, though he has not recorded a regular-season reception for New York this season.

Cambre also brings special teams experience and has remained with the Giants’ practice squad. He played primarily on special teams at Louisiana and recorded two blocked punts during his college career.

The timing matters for a Giants team sitting atop the NFC East at 3-1 after its comeback win over Arizona. New York has won three of its first four games and will travel to face the 1-3 Washington Commanders in Week 5.

For now, the Giants appear comfortable replacing Berrios without making another major move. Jones has already shown he can handle the return duties, while Hyatt and Cambre give Harbaugh additional options if the team needs more help at wide receiver or on special teams.
