Giants' Daniel Jones shares playoff advice he received from Eli Manning

New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones made it known earlier this week he'd ask Eli Manning for advice ahead of Sunday's wild-card playoff game at the Minnesota Vikings.

On Friday, Jones shared what his former backup had to say.

"It was keep your process the same, keep your approach the same," Jones said about his conversation with the two-time Super Bowl champion, per Jordan Raanan of ESPN. "Largely, it's the same game. Your intensity is up a little bit, but nothing changes as far as your decision-making and how you approach the game. It's the same game. Trust what has gotten you there."

Jones is attempting to follow in Manning's footsteps in several ways beginning with Sunday's clash at U.S. Bank Stadium. In January 2008, Manning guided the Giants to three consecutive road victories before the club's historic win over the unbeaten New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLII. Four years later, Manning and company notched victories at the Green Bay Packers and at the San Francisco 49ers to secure a Super Bowl rematch versus the Patriots that New York won.

Manning affectionately became known as "Easy Eli" for his ability to keep his cool and complete some of the greatest plays in NFL history on the sport's biggest stages. As Kirsten Fleming recently pointed out for the New York Post, Jones' "boring" persona has drawn comparisons to Manning as the 25-year-old and many of his teammates prepare to make their postseason debuts.

Meanwhile, star running back Saquon Barkley spoke about attempting to match playoff accomplishments achieved by franchise legends such as Manning, Michael Strahan and Lawrence Taylor.

"When you talk to the greats, when you mention the Giants greats and those names, all of them have moments within the playoffs and in big games making plays," Barkley explained. "If you want to be the type of player you want to be, those are the types of performances you got to have. And those are the performances you dream of."
