The Giants received a pair of tough injury updates heading into the weekend. After receiving confirmation that starting linebacker Tremaine Edmunds would miss the remainder of the season with a torn muscle in his chest, the team also found out today that defensive end Chauncey Golston would join him, per ESPN’s Jordan Raanan.

Golston was placed on injured reserve two weeks ago after sustaining a neck injury in the team’s Week 4 win over the Cardinals. His prognosis early didn’t look promising, prompting the team to sign Jihad Ward for a short period off the Vikings’ practice squad and quiet recent rumors of a Kayvon Thibodeaux-trade, but Golston sought a second opinion with hopes of a brighter outcome. Unfortunately, like Edmunds, Golston is out for the season and will not be able to be activate off IR..

Golston is in his second year with the G-Men, signing with the team last year as a free agent after playing out his rookie contract with the division-rival Cowboys. A former third-round pick out of Iowa, Golston mostly played a rotational role on the edge in Dallas. The team began to get more looks at him in Year 3, trusting him with three starts throughout the season before he enjoyed a breakout campaign in the final year of his rookie deal. With 13 starts in that contract year, Golston logged career-highs in total tackles (56), tackles for loss (5), sacks (5.5), quarterback hits (8), and passes defensed (5) and even recorded his first career interception.

In New York, Golston’s presence on the first-team defense has not been necessary in a much more talent-heavy room. His depth will continue to be missed, though, as he remains on IR with defensive tackle Roy Robertson-Harris and outside linebacker Brian Burns. Edmunds, too, will soon join the group of seven defensive players — 11 players total — on IR in New York.

In brighter news, Dan Duggan of The Athletic reports that recent injuries to New York’s offensive tackles group are not a cause for long-term concern. Head coach John Harbaugh delivered the update as both starting bookends, Jermaine Eluemunor (calf) and Andrew Thomas (groin), and second-year swing tackle Marcus Mbow (knee) worked through injuries in practice this week. All three tackles were absent on Wednesday and limited the next two days, but it looks like the team should be able to field a starting pair as Eluemunor and Mbow are listed as questionable and Thomas heads into the weekend without an injury designation.
