The New York Giants did make a trade up for a quarterback in round one during the 2025 NFL Draft. It was not for Cam Ward or Shedeur Sanders. Instead, it was a move late in the first round for Jaxson Dart.

The Giants recently revealed that they tried an aggressive move on night one of the draft, too.

Giants tried a draft day trade with Titans for first pick

While the Titans were on the clock at the first overall pick, Giants general manager Joe Schoen jokingly made a call to Tennessee's front office to double check that they still would not trade down.

The Giants were interested in moving up for QB Cam Ward. The Titans ended up taking the former Miami quarterback to be their new starter.

This was not the first attempt at trading up by New York, of course. They knew it was incredibly unlikely that the Titans were going to make a deal with them, but Schoen wanted to give it one more go just to be completely sure.

FWIW: Prior to this, a few weeks earlier, the #Giants made a serious attempt to trade for the No. 1 pick, willing to offer the No. 3 selection and a 2026 first-rounder. The #Titans declined, fully locked in on drafting Cam Ward. -- Ari Meirov

The draft always has comical moments, and this was another one presented by the Giants. You have to appreciate that they never truly gave up on moving up for the first pick. Instead, they sat at third overall and picked EDGE rusher Abdul Carter.

New York also brought in Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston earlier in the offseason as veteran options for the QB position. We will see who is the Week 1 starter in a massively important season for head coach Brian Daboll and Joe Schoen.
