Giants Have Strong Interest In Jonathan Taylor Trade

Vacchiano brought up Giants HC John Harbaugh’s quote a few weeks ago, where he said, “I would love for us to be in that kind of a circumstance — a Derrick Henry circumstance or a Saquon Barkley circumstance.”

However, one executive told Vacchiano, “No one is sure if Indy is serious about trading him. What they want is an extraordinarily high price.”

Earlier today, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported that no teams have met the Colts’ asking price in a deal, which many have said is thought to be what Christian McCaffrey went for in 2022 — a second, third, fourth and fifth-round pick.

One source told Vacchiano he’s heard the Colts have even gone as far as to want a first-round pick included in a deal back for Taylor. Vacchiano also mentioned the Giants don’t have a fourth- or fifth-round pick in the upcoming draft, but feels it’s clear Harbaugh would be willing to move a first-round pick to get the deal done.

Taylor, 27, is a former second-round pick of the Colts back in 2020 out of Wisconsin. He was entering the final year of his four-year, $7,829,150 rookie contract with the Colts that included a $3,253,928 signing bonus when Indianapolis signed Taylor to a three-year, $42 million contract extension that included $26.5 million guaranteed.

He was set to make a base salary of $11.98 million in 2026, the final year of that deal, when he signed a two-year, $44 million extension in camp this year.

In 2026, Taylor has appeared in eight games for the Colts and rushed 148 times for 610 yards (4.1 YPC) and eight touchdowns. He’s also caught 21 passes for 202 yards.

We’ll have more on Taylor ahead of the trade deadline as the news is available.
