While free-agent wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. has recently seemingly flirted with the Green Bay Packers and just about any team interested in acquiring his services, Beckham raised eyebrows when he visited with members of the New York Giants, his former team, earlier this week.
As Jaclyn Hendricks noted for the New York Post, Beckham's Big Blue trip was officially related to seeing friend Sterling Shepard, who went down with a season-ending torn ACL in his left knee on Sept. 26. Per the Giants' website, first-year head coach Brian Daboll was asked Friday about "rumors" linking his club and first-year general manager Joe Schoen with OBJ.
"I'd say that Joe and I talk a lot about a wide variety of things: players, adding players, workouts on Mondays and Tuesdays," Daboll responded while dancing around the subject. "We're always trying to improve our roster in any way that we can."
Giants wide receivers have failed quarterback Daniel Jones early and often this season even though New York is 3-1 heading into Sunday's game against the 3-1 Packers in London. Per ESPN stats, unproven commodity Richie James will begin the weekend leading all New York receivers on the campaign with 15 catches and 155 receiving yards across four contests. It's also worth noting that neither Daboll nor Schoen had anything to do with the Giants trading Beckham to the Cleveland Browns after he played for the organization from 2014 through the 2018 season.
Remember, though, that Beckham is still recovering from the torn ACL he suffered this past February and may not be available to play before some point in November at the earliest. By then, the Giants realistically could be out of playoff contention depending on all that occurs over the next six weeks or so.
