Sitting pretty as the top team in the NFC East at 4-2, the New York Giants have something to celebrate coming out of their bye week: a contract extension for offseason signing Greg Newsome.
Taking to social media to announce the move, Fox Sports’ Jordan Schultz revealed that the Giants have extended the veteran cornerback for the next three years, handing him $46 million with almost 70 percent of it guaranteed.
“Sources: Giants and CB Greg Newsome have agreed to a three-year, $46 million extension with $32 million guaranteed,” Schultz wrote. “Newsome previously signed a one-year deal in free agency and cashes in after only 7 games. Deal negotiated by Erik Burkhardt of Roc Nation Sports
Initially selected in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft out of Northwestern, Newsome spent the first four-and-a-half years of his professional career with the Cleveland Browns before being traded to the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2025 with a sixth-round pick for fellow cornerback Tyson Campbell and a seventh-round pick. Allowed to walk in free agency, Newsome signed an $8 million contract with the Giants in the hopes of extending his NFL career and quickly found a home in East Rutherford, effectively holding down the outside corner spot opposite Deonte Banks.
As the only team with a winning record in the NFC East right now, with the Philadelphia Eagles, Washington Commanders, and Dallas Cowboys all seemingly finding new ways to suffer embarrassing losses each week, a playoff spot is very much in the mix for John Harbaugh in Year 1 of his program. And when it comes to cornerback, fans won’t have to wonder about at least one starter for the next three years, as Newsome is now a locked-in member of Dennard Wilson’s secondary for the foreseeable future.
