Giants' Jaxson Dart breaks more NFL records despite another loss

The New York Giants are not a good football team. With another fourth quarter collapse in a 24-20 loss to the Chicago Bears, the Giants have proven they're experts at making all the wrong decisions.

Despite that, the team has done one thing right by finding their potential franchise quarterback in rookie Jaxson Dart. Even with a losing record, the rookie gives the Giants the best chance to win.

Jaxson Dart runs into the NFL record books

On Sunday, Dart continued his five-game streak of scoring with his legs. With a three-yard touchdown run in the first quarter, he beat quarterback Cam Newton's previous rookie record of scoring a rushing touchdown in four straight games

However, Dart suffered a setback in his impressive debut season when a concussion forced him out of the game in the fourth quarter. Before being taken out of the game, Dart rushed for a second 24-yard touchdown and finished the game with 67 yards on six carries.

Dart also became just the fifth rookie quarterback since 1950 to have at least five games of 50 or more rushing yards, according to NFL+. His 67 yards on Sunday marked the most rushing yards he's had this season. Dart's longest run of the season, so far, was his 24-yard touchdown.

The 6-foot-2, 223-pound quarterback is a dangerous runner with legitimately good vision. His ability to extend plays and exploit the space the defense gives up will have to remain an important part of his game. And that doesn't mean his legs have to make up for deficiencies in his passing game.

Against the Bears, Dart had 19 completions on 29 attempts for 242 yards. Through seven starts, he's thrown for 1,175 yards, 10 touchdowns and has just three interceptions. Dart has seven rushing touchdowns, and the rest of his Giants teammates have responded well to his playing through the echo of the whistle style of running.

Still, while Dart is an athletic quarterback, he's not a Lamar Jackson-like athlete and doesn't have Josh Allen's frame to sustain big hits. How Dart balances his running ability with staying healthy will be the true key to having a long and successful career in New York.
