Giants' Jaxson Dart shares new defiant message about important lesson from rookie season

Coaches and other members of the NFL community have routinely voiced concerns about the long-term health of New York Giants quarterback and 2025 first-round draft pick Jaxson Dart after he was forced out of games on five occasions to get checked for a concussion from the preseason through Week 18 of his rookie campaign.

While speaking at the Giants Town Hall in Manhattan on Monday night, Dart suggested that he understands his availability to the club is the ability that matters most heading into his second pro season.

Jaxson Dart learned an important lesson during his rookie season

"The most important thing that I learned is I got to be on the field," Dart acknowledged, per Dan Benton of Giants Wire/USA Today.

Dart suffered a concussion during the Giants' Week 10 loss to the Chicago Bears last November. He ultimately missed two games while in the concussion protocol, and he then took a crunching hit against the New England Patriots while trying to gain extra yards on a carry in his first game back from his injury.

Following that primetime matchup, Dart somewhat defiantly said he was "going to play aggressive." He later mentioned that Josh Allen of the Buffalo Bills and Patrick Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs "take hits, too."

Mahomes is currently recovering from the torn ACL and torn LCL he suffered on Dec. 14 of last year.

Jaxson Dart isn't going to completely change his playing style after injury scares

"But at the same time," Dart added on Monday, "if it's third down, fourth down, they're standing my way, I’m gonna go right through them."

Dart making such a comment during the spring is relatively harmless. Additionally, Giants fans probably won't mind if he lowers his shoulder in an attempt to pick up a key first down or score a pivotal touchdown during a late-season game that could determine whether or not Big Blue qualifies for the playoffs.

That said, Dart should expect to receive an earful from head coach John Harbaugh if the signal-caller welcomes avoidable contact during the Giants' Week 1 "Sunday Night Football" matchup versus the rival Dallas Cowboys on Sept. 13.
