The Giants have holes all over the roster but without a quarterback signed for 2025, New York desperately needs a passer and they’ll get one according to one recent mock draft.
Daniel Jones is gone and Drew Lock is a free agent. Tommy DeVito is an exclusive rights free agent which allows New York to match any offer but with a 3-5 record over the past two seasons, “Tommy Cutlets” is clearly not the answer.
Colorado QB Shedeur Sanders could be, however. In his latest mock draft, Mason Cameron of Pro Football Focus believes Penn State edge-rusher Abdul Carter will go first overall to the Titans followed by Miami quarterback Cam Ward to the Browns.
As Cameron puts it, “With two-way star Travis Hunter still on the board, the Giants would face a difficult decision: add one of the most talented skill players to enter the draft in decades or prioritize the game’s most valuable position."
Talented as Hunter may be, Cameron sees Sanders as the logical move for a front office under pressure in 2025.
Sanders started 24 games for Colorado, throwing for 7,364 yards and 64 touchdowns after following his head coach and father Deion Sanders from Jackson State in 2023. Sanders completed 74% of his passes last season and his 37 touchdowns were second-most in the FBS behind Ward (39).
At 6-foot-2 and 215 pounds, Sanders has the requisite size needed to succeed in the NFL and is generally regarded as a poised, accurate passer with a quick release and, while not necessarily a runner as he actually ran for negative yardage in three of four college seasons, he’s mobile enough to extend plays and had four touchdowns in each of last two seasons with Colorado.

If Sanders comes to New York, he’ll be tasked with running an offense that gained the third-fewest yards (294.8) and second-fewest points (16.1) points per game in 2024. He could also be responsible for saving Brian Daboll’s job.
Daboll inherited Jones when he took over the team in 2022. Sanders would give him an opportunity to build a quarterback from the ground up and possibly see the end of his five-year contract.
He did wonders with Josh Allen as offensive coordinator of the Bills prior to joining the Giants, maybe he can do the same with Sanders.
