Giants Make Starting QB Decision Ahead of Los Angeles Chargers Game

The New York Giants have been in desperate need of a quarterback since franchise legend Eli Manning retired after the 2019 season.

They drafted Daniel Jones that year, but he showed little promise in his six seasons with the team, so they moved on and released him in the middle of the 2024 season.

They brought in veteran quarterback Russell Wilson, who they hoped could provide the offense with some explosiveness with his patented “moon ball,” but that hasn’t been the case.

The offense has failed to score a passing touchdown in two of three games this year, so the Giants have finally seen enough.

Adam Schefter of ESPN reported that New York will turn to rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart this Sunday against the Los Angeles Chargers.

Dart, the 25th overall pick in this year’s draft, flashed unexpected potential in preseason, with impressive command of the offense and an unmistakable charisma on the field.

He was relatively accurate, completing more than 63% of his passes in each of the first two preseason games, and showed a willingness to push the ball down the field.

Wilson’s Career Outlook After Giants’ Benching

For Wilson, this could mark the end of what was an overall successful career. He won a Super Bowl with the Seattle Seahawks back in the 2013 season and made himself hundreds of millions of dollars in his career, but it’s hard to imagine a scenario where he starts again.

Wilson played for the Pittsburgh Steelers last season, and despite an impressive start with the team, he looked abysmal down the stretch, with the team dropping its final four games of the regular season before being eliminated from the playoffs by the Baltimore Ravens.

Before joining the Steelers, he played for the Denver Broncos, where he was benched by head coach Sean Payton, which led to his Steelers tenure.

Wilson has just been a shell of himself since leaving Seattle, so after being benched twice in the last three seasons, it’s difficult to imagine him getting another chance to lead a team.

Dart will finally take the field in New York and fans hope that he can be a nice change of pace from the lackluster quarterback play they’ve witnessed in recent years.
