Giants' Malik Nabers Snubbed From Pro Bowl

The 2024 season has not been kind to the New York Giants or their fans. They’ve grown apathetic to yet another losing season, exhausted by poor quarterback play and wasted potential.

But few things invigorate fanbases like anger, and the New York faithful were given a reason to raise their pitchforks ahead of Week 18.

On Thursday, the NFL announced the Pro Bowl rosters, as voted on my fans, coaches, and players. Defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence was the Giants’ lone starter.

That leaves rookie phenom and star receiver Malik Nabers on the waiting list, despite his electric 2024 campaign.

Nabers was listed as alternate – an impressive accomplishment in itself but short of the expectations his talent demands.

Minnesota Vikings superstar Justin Jefferson headlines the NFC’s receiving corps. He’ll be flanked by Detroit Lions receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown and NFC East rivals CeeDee Lamb and Terry McLaurin.

Nabers has been dealt perhaps the worst quarterbacking hand of any top receiver. Yet, he’s been virtually the entire passing offense, earning a ludicrous 162 targets in 14 games, Nabers has generated 104 catches, 1,140 and six touchdowns. His latest work was his best game yet. In Week 17, Nabers torched the Indianapolis Colts for 171 yards and two scores in a 45-33 win.

Compared to McLaurin – the best receiver on a playoff-bound Washington Commanders team – Nabers has 30 more catches, six more yards, and six fewer touchdowns. Whether that’s enough to earn the accolade over another star target is debatable, but the impact Nabers has had on this offense is not.

Nabers has made up 37 percent of New York’s passing yards on 30 percent of the team’s completions and 47 percent of its completions. He did so while missing Weeks 5 and 6 with a concussion.

He’s already broken the franchise’s rookie record for receptions and with a repeat performance of Week 17 could take down Odell Beckham Jr.’s mark for rookie receiving yards. Making more history would only further what’s been an exceptional rookie year – and one worthy of a Pro Bowl selection.
