Giants meeting with Micah Parsons-esque prospect before 2025 NFL Draft

Edge-rusher may not be the New York Giants' biggest need heading into the 2025 NFL Draft, but why pass on a prospect who's drawing Micah Parsons comparisons?

Per ESPN's Adam Schefter, Penn State edge-rusher Abdul Carter had breakfast with Giants head coach Brian Daboll in State College, Pennsylvania, on Sunday. The 21-year-old is now scheduled to visit with the team in New Jersey on Thursday. New York has the No. 3 pick in the draft, scheduled April 24-26 in Green Bay.

Like Carter, Parsons (now with the Dallas Cowboys) starred at Penn State, earning a first-team All-American nod in 2019.

In 2024, Carter switched from off-ball linebacker to edge-rusher. Before the season started, Parsons — who made the same transition in the NFL — trained with Carter to improve his pass-rushing skills. The four-time Pro Bowler's tips worked.

Per Pro Football Focus, the 6-foot-3, 250-pounder tied for second in the FBS in pressures (66 in 16 games) last season.

"I think [Carter] is just as talented as [Parsons]," PFF's Dalton Wasserman said on the "PFF NFL Show" on April 2.

Although they signed quarterbacks Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston in free agency, the Giants could still use another passer. Wilson turns 37 on Nov. 29, while Winston has a 36-51 starting record in 10 seasons.

Plus, Carter may have medical concerns. Tests at the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis revealed his right foot has a stress reaction. He didn't work out at Penn State pro day on March 28 because of a left shoulder injury he suffered in the College Football Playoff quarterfinal against Boise State.

However, on a March 28 episode of "NFL Live," ESPN's Matt Miller said neither injury is expected to affect Carter's draft stock.

In a story published on April 4, Miller gave zero QBs in the 2025 draft class a first-round grade. Perhaps the Giants should take Carter with pick No. 3 instead of reaching on a QB.

If the 2024 first-team All-American becomes the next Parsons, imagine what he and fellow edge-rushers Brian Burns and Kayvon Thibodeaux could do for the Giants defense.
