Giants RB Saquon Barkley limited in practice Wednesday

In a development that will surprise nobody who has followed the story, it appears fans will have to wait at least one more day to potentially learn if New York Giants star running back Saquon Barkley will take the field for Sunday's regular-season opener against the Denver Broncos.

Per Chase Goodbread of the NFL's official website, Barkley was listed as limited in practice Wednesday as he works to recover from the torn ACL he suffered roughly 12 months ago. This isn't necessarily a sign of anything worrisome, as NFL Network's Ian Rapoport said Monday that Giants head coach Joe Judge and his staff want to see how the 24-year-old responds to hopefully being a full participant in Thursday's session before making any final call on his status for Week 1.

Judge made it clear throughout the summer the team would not rush Barkley back to face a live defense before it was felt he was 100% coming off the injury, and it's been believed the second overall pick of the 2018 NFL Draft could be made to sit through the upcoming weekend depending on how he looks late Thursday and Friday.

Barkley didn't play in the preseason and only took some contact from teammates for the first time last Thursday.

In short, fantasy football owners who drafted Barkley shouldn't yet lock him into starting lineups for Week 1.
