Giants sign former Titans OT Isaiah Wilson to practice squad

Isaiah Wilson is getting a second chance to make it in the NFL.

The New York Giants announced Thursday they have signed the former first-round pick to their practice squad.

The Tennessee Titans drafted Wilson, but he played just one game for the franchise before off-field issues derailed his career. Months after being drafted, he reportedly broke COVID-19 protocols by attending a party at Tennessee State. Wilson allegedly considered jumping from a second-story balcony to evade police.

The 22-year-old was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list two weeks later, which was the second time he had been placed on the list since being drafted.

Wilson also was arrested for an alleged DUI just days before Tennesee opened the 2020 season. In a separate incident, he also led police on a chase before crashing and being arrested. According to ESPN's Turron Davenport, Wilson's arrest stemming from the police chase was the last straw, and they traded him to the Miami Dolphins in March for a future draft pick.

The Dolphins reportedly knew about his arrest when they acquired him but didn't know the full details. Three days after the trade became official, the Dolphins cut Wilson. He showed up late for his physical and team orientation did not attend two optional workouts after telling the team he would be there.

The Giants are hopeful Wilson will get his career back on track closer to home. Wilson grew up in Brooklyn and is familiar with Giants offensive line coach Rob Sale, who recruited him to Georgia.

If Wilson can put his off-field issues behind him, he has a legitimate shot at making a name for himself in the NFL. If not, it's hard to see him getting another chance if he blows this opportunity with the Giants.
