Najee Harris met with the Seahawks in March, but no deal was produced as a result. The veteran running back is still unsigned well into August, although his next visit has been lined up.
Harris will meet with the Giants today, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports. This represents the first known visit in this case since the spring. Harris’ one-year Chargers stint was limited to just three games due to an Achilles tear, something which has dealt a blow to his 2026 market.
As Dan Duggan of The Athletic notes, Harris has been on the Giants’ radar for an extended period. Depending on how today’s visit goes, a deal could soon be in place as a result. The key concern on New York’s part will of course be Harris’ status as he recovers from the first major injury of his career.
The former Steelers first-rounder took a one-year Bolts contract last offseason. Harris played all 17 games during each of his four Pittsburgh campaigns, although he averaged just 3.9 yards per attempt over that span. A depth or tandem role will no doubt be in store whenever his next deal is lined up, but the 28-year-old has logged at least 255 carries during each of his healthy NFL seasons.
Cam Skattebo is in line to handle starting duties in 2026 after handling a large workload when healthy as a rookie. The Giants’ running back depth chart also includes Devin Singletary and Tyrone Tracy, but Duggan notes New York’s backfield still faces uncertainty not long before the start of the season. Adding Harris would provide a high-floor veteran to the mix.
The Giants currently have roughly $10.5MM in cap space. That does not leave much room for major roster moves, but it could allow for a flier to be taken on Harris or another experienced running back option prior to Week 1.
