‘Grateful’ Travis Kelce delighted to raise the bar for tight ends after securing record-breaking deal with the Chiefs
Briana Sanchez / USA TODAY NETWORK

In the absence of any solid wide receiver, one who came through for the Kansas City Chiefs last season was star tight end Travis Kelce . He not only gave them reliable backing on the football field but also posted better yards than the receiving squads– leading to the second consecutive Super Bowl victory.

When it was time to reward the star tight end, the Chiefs surely didn’t hold back. For most of his career with the Chiefs, Kelce has lived with the narrative of being underpaid based on his production. But with his new contract, Kansas City made sure to fix that narrative as they made him the highest-paid tight end in the history of the NFL.

While talking about his lucrative two-year deal, the nine-time Pro Bowler expressed his gratitude for his team on the recent episode of the New Heights podcast. He also shared how he landed such a huge deal while highlighting why this new tight-end salary record was important.

I am so excited and I'm so thankful to this organization for getting it done and making me feel appreciated and compensated the right way. And on top of that, I got to move the needle for the tight end room. It's everyone else's job to go out there and keep making that tight-end AAV number go up and up with every single contract that's better than mine in the future. Travis Kelce on New Heights

The 34-year-old also said that he is yet to see what his future has for him after the end of his new deal. This means, there might be a chance for him to retire with an even better deal after the 2025 season.

Travis Kelce’s following his brother, Jason Kelce’s legendary footsteps

Talking about his $34 million contract, Travis highlighted how he is following in the footsteps of his brother, Jason Kelce. Given, the newly-retired legendary centre ended his football career as the highest-paid centre in the history of the NFL.

This is just following your footsteps again. Well, you know, like last two years you were the highest-paid center.

Except for the team and position, Travis had been following his brother’s footsteps all along. Jason is the reason why Travis was able to make it to the NFL as he passed on the sport to Travis in high school, followed by him joining the same college as Jason, just two years later.
