Former Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers isn’t done yet. He will be adding another chapter to his illustrious career in the NFL, as he will now be heading the attack of the Pittsburgh Steelers on the field after signing a one-year contract worth $13.65 million with the team he once conquered in the Super Bowl.
Rodgers is coming off what was essentially a season’s worth of tenure with the New York Jets, and while he showed some flashes with them in 2024, he wasn’t able to lead the AFC East franchise to any meaningful accomplishment outside of winning just five games.
In what could be his final season in the NFL as a player, Rodgers will look to make one last hurrah with the Steelers, a team that appears to be much more stable than the Jets.
Rodgers was eighth on ESPN’s top 10 QB list heading into the 2024 NFL season, but that’s not the case this time around, as he did not even make the list.
As ESPN explains:
Aaron Rodgers, Steelers (No. 8 in 2024 preseason) — Rodgers proved he could still play at age 40 and coming off an Achilles injury, with rather impressive looking traditional numbers (3,897 yards, 28 TD, 11 INT) and a handful of vintage Rodgers performances. But he also finished 25th in QBR, and the Jets were finished by October, so a place outside the top 10 is more than appropriate for the future Hall of Famer. Rodgers signed a one-year, $13.65 million contract with the Steelers in June and said 2025 would likely be his final NFL season.
In any case, Rodgers will be intriguing to watch, as he faces off yet again with Father Time. Turning 41-years-0ld in December, Rodgers will have some solid weapons downfield, including wide receiver DK Metcalf and tight end Pat Freiermuth.
It is also worth noting that he and the Steelers will get to face the Packers in Week 8 at Acrisure Stadium.
