Former Packers Pro Bowl QB cited for allegedly choking man in a bar

A 10th-round pick by Green Bay in the 1987 NFL Draft, Majkowski played in 20 games (14 starts) through the first two seasons of his career, throwing for 2,994 yards, 14 touchdowns and 14 interceptions.

But 1989 saw him play his lone full and healthy season, a year in which he had a 58.9% completion percentage, 4,318 yards, 27 touchdowns, and 20 interceptions. The Packers went 10-6 that year, a rare winning season at the time, and Majkowski was named to the Pro Bowl.

Injuries, however, derailed his career, and he was eventually replaced by Favre, who started every game for Green Bay for 15 years from 1993 to 2007. Still, despite his short tenure with the Packers, Majkowski still is held in high regard by the fan base and makes his home in Wisconsin.

According to a report by Adam Rosen of WFRV 5 in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, Majkowski was involved in an altercation at a bar, and choked one of the employees who tried to defuse the situation:

“According to the police report, a man was refusing to leave after allegedly choking an employee. Officers arrived and found the man described by witnesses and bar staffers, identifying him as Donald Majkowski, the former Packers quarterback.

“Officers spoke to bar staff, who alleged that Majkowski and another man were pushing each other when a staffer tried to separate the two before calling for another person to come help.

“Majkowski allegedly grabbed the person’s throat, leaving a red mark; however, the victim said it didn’t cause any harm, and staff escorted Majkowski outside of the bar. According to the release, Majkowski was ‘extremely intoxicated’ and unable to contact an Uber, as officers took him to a hotel.

“Majkowski alleged that he was “jumped” because of the boyfriends of women at the bar being ‘jealous of him because he used to be an NFL player.'”

Per the report, the hotel staff then called police about an intoxicated man who did not have a room. As it turns out, the former Packers quarterback was staying at a different hotel.
