With Jordan Love under center , the Green Bay Packers are hopeful that the quarterback will lead them to more wins in 2025 — and a deeper run in the NFL playoffs.
The Packers won 11 games last season, and while their boat reached the postseason, the trip was short and well, not sweet. Green Bay got immediately bounced out of the playoffs following a 22-10 loss in the NFC Wild-Card Round at the hands of the Philadelphia Eagles, who went on to win the Super Bowl.
The Love-led Green Bay Packers offense has the tools to be one of the most prolific in the NFL again after ranking inside the top 10 in the league in 2024 with 26.1 points per game. But it’s going to take more than just Love and the offense for the Packers to reach their Super Bowl dreams.
The defense will also have to step up and deliver in the second year of Jeff Hafley as the team’s defensive coordinator.
In a recent piece on Green Bay’s official website, Mike Spofford entertained some questions from Packers fans, including one about what group he thinks will show substantial improvement in 2025.
Here’s the fan’s question and Spofford’s answer:
With so many young players stepping into bigger roles this season, which position group do you think will show the most growth for the Packers, and why?
Linebacker could be the choice. Quay Walker and Edgerrin Cooper started exactly once together last season – the playoff game in Philly. Walker’s in Year 2 in Hafley’s system, Cooper’s in Year 2 in the league, and Isaiah McDuffie is the trusted vet who’s been with Hafley longer than anyone. Plus I’m not ruling out Ty’Ron Hopper finding a role in that group eventually, too.
The young tandem of Cooper and Walker has tremendous promise, especially with the former having more experience this time around following a solid rookie campaign, albeit one that was hampered by a hamstring issue. Walker shouldn’t be short of motivation since he is entering a contract year.
Someone taking a noticeable leap outside of Cooper, Walker and McDuffie could take the group into a higher tier in 2025.
