Former Green Bay Packers superstar quarterback Aaron Rodgers is giving his body at least another season to give it a go in the NFL.
About to turn 42 years old in December, the future Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback decided to bring whatever is left of his skills and abilities to the Pittsburgh Steelers, signing a one-year deal worth $13.65 million contract with the team he once led the Packers to defeat at a Super Bowl clash.
But up to this point, fans have yet to see Rodgers play in a preseason, regular season, or postseason game, in a non-Packers uniform. For one, he’s yet to see action in the preseason for the Steelers, and that seems to be the plan again in Pittsburgh’s preseason finale showdown this coming Thursday against the Carolina Panthers on the road.
As noted by Steelers insider Gerry Dulac, this is quite the rarity for a healthy Steelers signal-caller.
Mike Tomlin said Aaron Rodgers will not play Thursday night in Carolina, along with TJ Watt, Cam Heyward and DK Metcalf. It is the first time in recent memory a healthy Steelers starting QB did not play a snap in a preseason game, dating to before Ben Roethlisberger.
With that, Rodgers will be expected to make his Steelers debut in Week 1 of the 2025 NFL regular season on Sep. 7, when Pittsburgh takes on the New York Jets on the road. He will also be on the field in Week 8, when the Steelers host the Packers in what is likely going to be Rodgers’ last game sharing the field with Green Bay.
