Dropped passes were a theme for the Green Bay Packers in their 27-20 win over the New York Giants. Whether it was Green Bay pass catchers failing to haul in throws from Jordan Love or the defense failing to intercept Giants quarterback Jameis Winston, the Packers dropped too many big play opportunities on Sunday.
If you just looked at the box score, Jordan Love had a mediocre game. He finished the game completing 13 of 24 pass attempts for 174 yards and 2 touchdown passes. If you watched the game, Love had one of his best games of the season. He was accurate with the football all afternoon, consistently putting the ball in his receivers’ hands. Pro Football Focus gave Love a passing grade of 93.4 (elite) for the game.
On the first offensive possession of the game the Packers faced a 3rd and 11 from midfield. Love rolled to his right to avoid the pass rush and threw a perfect ball to wide open Romeo Doubs past the line to gain but Doubs failed to haul it in.

Drops became a recurring issue throughout the game for Green Bay pass catchers. They finished the game with at least 6 passes that were dropped. For an offense that had been struggling entering the game, they continued to make critical mistakes.
Unfortunately, this issue goes back to last season. The Packers finished the 2024 season ranked third in the NFL in dropped passes.
Fortunately for the Green Bay Packers, they were playing a bad team. Love’s receivers were able to hang on to enough passes down the stretch to win the game. Highlighted by a 33-yard contested catch by rookie Savion Williams on 3rd and 10 and capped off by a 17-yard touchdown catch by Christian Watson.

The Giants started backup quarterback Jameis Winston on Sunday. Throughout his career he has been notorious for throwing interceptions. Packers defensive backs had plenty of opportunities to make a play on the ball but failed to convert.
On the game’s opening possession, cornerback Carrington Valentine jumped a pass from Winston but failed to haul it in. During the next drive, Valentine made another nice read and gave himself a chance at another pick but couldn’t come up with the football.
Packers defenders had two more chances at interceptions on the Giants’ opening drive of the fourth quarter. Javon Bullard had the ball fall into his hands after it bounced off a New York receivers’ hands, but couldn’t complete the catch after colliding with his own teammate.
Later in the drive Winston uncorked a ball deep down the middle into double coverage, but neither Keisean Nixon or Xavier McKinney could come up with the pick. The Giants ended up scoring on the possession and taking a one point lead.

The Giants drove the ball down the field with a chance to tie or take the lead late in the fourth quarter. They got down to the 14-yard line before Green Bay’s defense finally got the interception that had eluded them throughout the game. Safety Evan Williams sealed the game by picking off a pass in the end zone.

The Packers were lucky they were playing an inferior opponent on Sunday. Against a better team, they don’t get out of the game with a victory. Getting these miscues cleaned up and taking advantage of big play opportunities will be paramount for the Packers down the stretch, especially with 5 of their final 7 games against divisional opponents. It starts with simply catching the football.
