Emanuel Wilson has been a reliable number two running back for the Green Bay Packers over the past two seasons, sometimes looking like a starting-caliber back. During that span, he has totaled 998 yards on 4.4 yards per attempt with seven rushing touchdowns in the regular season. Wilson put together a strong third season, rushing for 496 yards on 175 carries across 17 regular-season games and two starts. He had an incredible performance in Week 12 against the Minnesota Vikings, rushing for a career-high 107 yards on 28 carries and scoring two touchdowns while Josh Jacobs was sidelined.

With his contract expiring, he is set to hit free agency as a restricted free agent.

The Green Bay Packers declined to place the right-of-first-refusal tender on Emanuel Wilson on Friday, worth a non-guaranteed $3.52 million, making him an unrestricted free agent. The Packers could still bring him back on a cheaper contract with some guaranteed money, though the underrated running back will likely earn more money on the open market. Wilson also posted on Instagram that he will miss Green Bay, essentially saying goodbye.

The Packers recent extension signals the offensive weapon’s likely exit

According to his agency, One West Sports Group, the Packers have re-signed Chris Brooks to a two-year, $4.85 million contract. The standout pass protector and third-string running back, who has primarily played as extra protection for Jordan Love on obvious passing downs to pick up blitzes, was also a restricted free agent. Green Bay opted to re-sign Brooks rather than place the non-guaranteed tender. Unfortunately, for Emanuel Wilson, this likely puts any possible return to rest, as the team may now be looking for their next number two back.
