The Green Bay Packers did something they have done for over two decades this offseason. They took a wide receiver with their first-round pick. Texas receiver Matthew Golden was brought in to try to give a boost to the young group of players. Last season, the group struggled with drops, costing the team valuable drives. GM Brian Gutekunst has made it clear he intends to have the problem fixed. Young veteran Romeo Doubs was asked about Golden, and he did not hold back on the praise.

The Green Bay Packers have started OTAs, and all eyes are on the wide receivers and Jordan Love. Romeo Doubs likes what he sees out of the 23rd overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. He was asked his opinion by Ryan Wood of PackersNews.com and had a glowing report.
“Oh, man. Kid’s a stud. Doesn’t say much, but he just comes in and works. He’s been real consistent in that area…kid is playing fast right now, so I’m excited to see it.”
This is high praise from the veteran of the group. Doubs isn’t the only person who has been impressed with Golden. Bill Huber of Packers Central named him the top-performing player in Tuesday’s practice. He caught six passes during the practice with both the first and second units, showcasing his elite route running and great hands. The Green Bay Packers hope he can stabilize the group and help Love in his third year as the starter.
There has been plenty of talk about Love’s regression over the past few weeks. However, many analysts pointed out that Love wasn’t necessarily the problem last year. His receivers dropped a ton of passes, many of them that would have kept scoring drives alive. Golden isn’t the biggest receiver, but scouts have noted his ability to catch the ball in traffic.
Golden also brings a deep threat to the Green Bay Packers’ offense. With Christian Watson sidelined with an ACL injury, the team needs a player who can stretch the field. Love has shown he is not afraid to throw deep, and I would expect plenty of targets for Golden in 2025 down the field.
The Green Bay Packers have tons of talent on offense. In terms of wide receivers, the room is very crowded right now, but OTAs and training camp will give us a look at who is safe on the depth chart. Can the offense dominate in 2025?
