The Green Bay Packers have only played three games this season, but they are still dealing with multiple injuries to some key players on their roster, particularly on the offensive side of the ball. Wide receiver Jayden Reed is out until November with a broken collar bone and Jones fracture. He had led Green Bay in both receptions and receiving yards in each of the past two seasons.
But while the Packers have plenty of depth at the wide receiver position to help fill the void, they are struggling to do so after two of their offensive linemen went down with injuries. Starting left guard Aaron Banks, who was signed to a four-year $77 million contract this offseason, battled a bad back in training camp and went down with a groin ailment in Week Three. He also missed Green Bay’s Week Two game against the Washington Commanders due to injury.
The most significant blow to the offense, though, is the oblique injury suffered by right tackle Zach Tom, who signed a four-year $88 million contract extension during training camp.
Tom first injured his oblique in Green Bay’s Week One victory over the Detroit Lions. Due to the fact that they played the Commanders just four days later, he was not active for their second game of the season.
Banks also missed that game.
In their place, the Packers started second-year lineman Jordan Morgan and rookie Anthony Belton.
Both players returned for Week Three, but both were unable to complete the game. Banks suffered his aforementioned groin injury and Tom was pulled after just one offensive snap because he could play through the pain from his injured oblique.
Green Bay has not put Tom on any injured list, so it is likely he will not need to miss any extended period of time. However, with their bye week coming up immediately following their Sunday night showdown against the Dallas Cowboys, it would make sense for him to miss that contest as well.
One indicator that Tom will not be available on Sunday night this week is the fact that the Packers have signed rookie undrafted offensive tackle Brant Banks from their practice squad to their active roster:
The #Packers are signing OT Brant Banks to the 53-man roster from the practice squad, source said. A big move for the former UDFA.

His signing also is indicative that the Packers are not too happy with the performance of their makeshift offensive line against the Cleveland Browns this past Sunday. Clearly, their depth was not good enough as quarterback Jordan Love was under constant pressure all game long.
Had Green Bay felt comfortable with their depth, they could have just elevated Banks to the active roster prior to the game without giving him a standard contract.
But they did not do that; they signed him.
Because the Packers only had 51 out of 53 possible roster spots filled, they did not need to make a corresponding move by signing Banks.
