Green Bay Packers Urged To Pursue More OL Help
Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

The Green Bay Packers have done a good job this offseason addressing needs on their roster. They have overhauled their entire secondary, as Jeff Hafley has some new weapons to work with at safety.

But, as they prepare for some of their team workouts, one positional group people are going to be keeping a close eye on is the offensive line. There will be some major changes, as long-time left tackle David Bakhtiari and guard Jon Runyan Jr. are no longer with the team.

Knowing some depth was needed, the Green Bay Packers hit the trenches hard during the 2024 NFL Draft. Their first-round pick was used on Arizona tackle Jordan Morgan and they used Day 3 picks on Jacob Monk out of Duke and Travis Glover out of Georgia State.

That is a lot of versatile depth added to the mix, as the Packers have the pieces in place for what can be a very strong unit. However, if there is one thing that they are missing, it is experience.

Right now, the most experienced offensive lineman on the team is guard Elgton Jenkins. There is a chance the team starts at least one rookie and several players who are still on their first contract in the NFL.

That is one of the reasons Alex Ballentine of Bleacher Report believes that the Green Bay Packers could dip into free agency for some reinforcements. One player they could target is veteran D.J. Humphries.

“D.J. Humphries is one of the best options available. The former Pro Bowler is still solid in pass protection and would at least be a great swing tackle at 30 years old,” Ballentine said.

The Green Bay Packers have options for left tackle, as Rasheed Walker filled in admirably for Bakhtiari last season. Morgan is receiving his shot at left tackle in offseason workouts as well.

But, having a veteran of Humphries caliber as insurance on the roster certainly wouldn’t be a bad idea. At the very least, Green Bay would have an excellent backup and swing tackle to turn to should a need arise. If Walker or Morgan struggle during the offseason, expect offensive line rumors to swirl for the Packers.
