Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes fell one win short of leading the franchise to becoming the first to ever three-peat in the Super Bowl era, as they lost to the Philadelphia Eagles 40-22 in Super Bowl 59.
Not everyone showed up for the Chiefs as star tight end Travis Kelce was a non-factor with four receptions for 39 yards, and Mahomes threw two interceptions. The team has had plenty of time to reflect on what went wrong that night, starting with Mahomes taking accountability for his mistakes and Kelce voicing that he is doing everything to come back stronger than ever this season.
Meanwhile, during training camp on Tuesday, Mahomes gave a newfound perspective on the loss and explained its impact on offseason motivation.
"We didn't play the way we wanted to play... You want to go out there and be better... Now we're here and you get to start over," said Mahomes. "How can I be better for my teammate beside me so we can go out and attack it?"
This offseason, the Kansas City pass thrower has stated that he has been in touch with one of the most winning players of all time, NFL legend Tom Brady, seeking advice and guidance on how to be the best version of himself.
The Chiefs kick off the upcoming season on September 5 against their division foe, the Los Angeles Chargers. They will have an early chance at redemption during Week 2 when they visit the reigning champion Eagles in Lincoln Financial Field.
