The NFL has quietly removed a very popular stadium from its Super Bowl rotation.

Even though Miami has already hosted the Super Bowl 11 times, Hard Rock Stadium has lost its hosting privileges. This shocking news was shared this week by Miami Dolphins owner Stephen Ross.

"The one thing that suffered is Miami hasn’t gotten a Super Bowl here, and we normally have one every five years," Ross said, via Brian Brandell of South Florida Business Journal. "Miami is not really in line for one. It’s always exciting to have the Super Bowl but that was before we had all the other events. Miami has by far the best weather. It’s in their best interest to have one here but at this point they don’t believe we meet all the requirements and the demands."

So why doesn't Hard Rock Stadium meet the criteria for hosting a Super Bowl?

Daniel Sillman, the CEO of Relevent, told the South Florida Business Journal there needs to be more space at Hard Rock Stadium for "hospitality events." That's hard to do since Formula 1 and the Miami Open have occupied that space.

“We are looking at how to make improvements,” Ross said. “I want to make the stadium always feel like a new stadium, we are looking at what the next phase will be and making the fan experience that much better.”

Looking ahead at the Super Bowl schedule.

Super Bowl LXI, which is set for Feb. 14, 2027, will take place at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California.

The NFL has already confirmed that Super Bowl LXII in 2028 will be hosted by Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia. Super Bowl LXIII, on the other hand, will take place at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada.

There are some rumblings about Tennessee hosting the Super Bowl in 2030, but nothing has been confirmed at this time. We just know it won't take place in Miami.
