Has Mike McDaniel done enough to keep his job?

To say that this has been a rocky season for the Miami Dolphins would be a massive understatement.

Nevertheless, they closed out the season on a much better note than most people anticipated.

Despite the injuries, Tua Tagovailoa's incendiary takes and all the turmoil around the team, it seems like the players responded to Mike McDaniel.

That's why, even though they might be in the market for a new quarterback this offseason, McDaniel is most likely coming back next season, according to NFL insider Ian Rapoport.

Mike McDaniel will stay with the Dolphins

"Coach Mike McDaniel would finish the season, with hopes of the team responding and showing McDaniel is the right man for the job," Rapoport wrote. "And while Monday night’s loss at Pittsburgh eliminated Miami from playoff contention and contributed to the seismic decision to bench quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, the preceding four-game winning streak has strengthened the belief McDaniel will be back in 2026."

Of course, McDaniel also deserves some criticism. While he has had to endure subpar quarterback play and injuries, not to mention a poorly built roster, he has yet to lead the team to a playoff win.

He's well-respected as an offensive guru and would probably land a job as an offensive coordinator almost immediately.

It'll be interesting to see how the Dolphins navigate this offseason and their approach the Tagovailoa's disastrous contract.

For now, however, it seems like their head coach will continue to get the benefit of the doubt with a new GM calling the shots.
