Has Ross Finally Got It Right?
Since 2009, when Stephen Ross became the owner of the Miami Dolphins, we, as fans, have witnessed countless changes in General Managers and head coaches.
None of whom have produced a win in the playoffs, adding 16 years to the prior 9 years without a playoff win.
A sad testament to Ross’s decision-making.
Now, finally, has Ross figured out that the General Manager and the head coach must both be replaced when the season goes south?
Let’s hope that is a correct assessment.
The latest news is that the Dolphins have hired Jon-Eric Sullivan as their new General Manager.
Sullivan is a Green Bay Packers lifer with ties to many coaches and coordinators who have been through the Packers organization.
This is a welcome sign for the Dolphins’ franchise, a move that will expectedly steer the team in an entirely different direction.
Ross has finally listened to his advisors.
Thank you, Troy Aikman, and whoever else counseled Ross, on this decision.
Maybe we can look forward to having a competent head coach on the sidelines.
At the very least, Dolphins fans can look forward to the 2026 season with a greater belief that the team has better leaders in place.
I will look forward to the 2026 season with very tempered expectations, given all the constraints that the team faces.
Salary-cap hell.
Reversing the Tua mistake.
Executing draft picks correctly.
Managing the contract expectations of De’Von Achane and veterans that proved their worth in 2025, such as Minkah Fitzpatrick and Jordyn Brooks?
Saying goodbye to Tyreek Hill.
It is not an enviable task for the new Dolphins General Manager, but at least Ross has finally got it right.
A team’s General Manager and head coach are tied together, and a GM must have the authority to make decisions.
