The best game the Las Vegas Raiders have played in terms of their offense was Week 1 against the New England Patriots, when offensive guard Jackson Powers-Johnson was healthy. The second-best game was last week, in a loss to the Chicago Bears, when JPJ was healthy.
Therefore, it's clear that the offensive guard plays a crucial role in the team's offense. But how does one keep their confidence high when they've lost the starting position at center, the preferred position for JPJ? He doesn't have a confidence issue, that's for sure.
"I don't feel anybody's presence when I'm up in the booth, but he's getting an aura now that if the offensive coordinator in the booth can feel the right guard's presence. Let me just tell you, I love JPJ [Jackson Powers-Johnson], but his head's really big right now, so let's just stop talking about that part," OC Chip Kelly said with a laugh.
"Maybe we can cut this part of the interview out because he'll be like, there's an aura in Allegiant Stadium with him. So, one thing I love is that he's a tough kid; he plays his tail off. He's a physical player. Obviously, when he was out, you lose that physicality that he brings. But do I feel it in the box? I don't. I'm hermetically sealed up there from anything. So, no slight to JPJ, but I don't feel anybody's aura or presence up there."

He's better as a center, yes, but then that leaves a huge issue at the right guard spot. So, while yes, it feels like he lost the position battle at center, it also has a bit to do with the fact that he's also the better option at right guard than what would have been the option had JPJ been the center.
When you look at the Raiders' run game on Sunday against the Bears, it was the best game they have had on the ground, and a large reason why is JPJ.
Now, a lot of those big chunk runs were to the opposite side of him, but on some of them, he's the guy creating the gap to the left side because of the offensive line sliding.
They massively need JPJ, and the fact that he still has a great amount of confidence is exactly what the Raiders like to see.
