The Houston Texans have the same issues they had last year, the same issues that caused them to lose in the postseason. And, no, this is not an article about the play calling, which has also been bad.
This is an article about injuries and bad offensive line play. Because of the injuries on the offensive line, the play with that group has gotten worse. But, the offensive line when healthy is still pretty bad. Now, they have an injury to their offensive line in the middle of their matchup vs. the Kansas City Chiefs.
Against the Chiefs, in a game that is more important for the Chiefs than it is for the Texans in terms of what's at stake, starting offensive lineman Shaq Mason went down to the ground and held his knee after a play.
He was taken off of the field. Later, we discovered he was taken to the locker room with a brace on his knee. Now, Mason hasn't been great this season. He has struggled a lot and has given up the most sacks on the team.
But, there is a reason he was starting, and I have to believe that it's because the guys behind him are even worse. Only time will tell, but for now, Mason is questionable to return.
You have to somehow hope he is available next week against the Baltimore Ravens.
Then, after that, Jimmie Ward, who had been a very important part of the defense as a veteran, was carted off of the field. He has been hurt most of the season and came back and was playing really solid.
