As previously discussed on Gridiron Heroics, the Houston Texans will make it a mission to rebuild the offensive line this offseason following the trades of Tytus Howard and Juice Scruggs. Houston is expected to sign four offensive linemen in free agency, with reported interest in Cade Mays, Braden Smith, and Wyatt Teller. As a result, the Texans could have four new faces along the line, with two starters set to hit free agency, including a Pro Bowler.
The Texans signed Trent Brown last March but released him during roster cuts, later signing him to the practice squad, giving him extra time to recover from last season’s ruptured patellar tendon. Due to his recovery and personal reasons, the Pro Bowl tackle did not make his season debut until Week 10 despite signing to the active roster in October. Brown started eight games at right tackle, offering stability in pass protection when he played, but missed three of the final four games due to a lingering knee and ankle injury, which kept him out of the Divisional Round.
According to Ian Rapoport, the Texans have re-signed Trent Brown to a one-year deal worth up to $7 million after expressing interest in a reunion. He will have an opportunity to compete for the starting right tackle job this offseason, with his contract likely tied to playing time incentives. At the very least, Brown will be in contention for the swing tackle role.
