How Cowboys' Micah Parsons could fuel DPOY odds against Commanders

Dallas Cowboys linebacker Micah Parsons is having another stellar season, but he admitted he's unsure whether he will finally win Defensive Player of The Year.

"I don't know," he said Wednesday, per Jon Machota of The Athletic. "I think I put up a good fight against some great guys across the league. I think it's going to be a good battle. Either way, I look at it, I understand how disruptive guys like Cleveland's Myles Garrett, Pittsburgh's T.J. Watt and whoever else is in the running is."

The award has eluded him, as he's finished second in DPOY voting for two consecutive seasons. It appears that could happen again. As of Thursday, FanDuel gives Garrett the best odds (-220) to win the award, followed by Parsons (+270) and Watt (+470).

However, the two-time first-team All-Pro will strengthen his case with a monstrous performance in Sunday's road game against the Washington Commanders (4-12). Washington has one of the weakest offensive lines in the NFL, so he should dominate. Per Pro Football Reference, it's allowed 61 sacks, the fifth most in the league.

Plus, Parsons — who has 13 sacks in 16 games, tied for eighth in the league — wants to surpass this figure for the first time in his career.

"I literally just had this conversation with the guys today," he said. "At this point, it's by any means necessary. I might jump offsides twice this week. Something has to change. Something. It's coming. It's coming for sure."

If Parsons excels, it will help the Cowboys (11-5) — who've already clinched a playoff spot — win their division, secure the No. 2 seed in the NFC and post 12 or more wins for a third straight season.
