How does Garrett Wilson train? Jets WR reveals his mindset

New York Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson has always been ready to be the lead focal point in the team’s passing attack.

“I train that way. I train like I’m gonna be the focal point of an offense, but if that’s not the plan this week, that’s not the plan,” Wilson told the media ahead of Gang Green’s practice session on Tuesday. “That’s part of my growth as a player.”

Prior to training camp, the Jets made their commitment to Wilson official, finalizing a four-year, $130 million extension that includes $90 million guaranteed and keeps him in New York through the 2030 season. The deal positions Wilson among the league’s elite wide receivers, ranking fifth in average annual salary at $32.5 million and fourth in guaranteed money.

Despite catching passes from eight different quarterbacks since entering the league, Wilson has delivered steady production. He has topped 1,000 receiving yards in each of his first three seasons, compiling 279 receptions for 3,249 yards and 14 touchdowns on 469 targets.

Entering the 2025 season, Wilson is the Jets’ only established, reliable wide receiver, which primes him to play a significant role in the team’s passing attack. Reunited with his quarterback during his college days, Justin Fields, Wilson is expected to deliver another impressive season as the team’s No. 1 wide receiver.

“I think he’s already special and I think he’s already a cornerstone,” Fields said of Wilson.

With a new contract in hand and the trust of his quarterback, Wilson enters 2025 as the cornerstone of a passing attack built to revolve around him.
