How Jets' Garrett Wilson is working to mimic Raiders' Davante Adams

New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers has repeatedly compared wide receiver and 2022 Offensive Rookie of the Year Garrett Wilson to former teammate and Las Vegas Raiders All-Pro Davante Adams.

Wilson revealed Friday how he's attempting to follow in Adams' footsteps.

"We go back and watch the 2018, 2019, 2020 Green Bay Packers and I mean, [Adams] was un-guardable at that point and Aaron didn't miss," Wilson told reporters on Friday, per Eric Allen of the Jets' website. "They were impressive. It's just easy for me to see [Adams] do it and be like, OK, that's what I want to do or that's how I should try and make it look. Just knowing how great he was, seeing how he made it work because this offense is catered to a receiver. Everything looks the same until it doesn't, and as a receiver that's what you want, and Davante did a great job with it."

Adams earned First-Team All-Pro nods with the Packers for the 2020 and 2021 seasons when Rodgers was his quarterback and Nathaniel Hackett served as Green Bay's offensive coordinator. Hackett is currently Rodgers' OC with the Jets, and many believe Wilson will improve upon the 83 receptions for 1,103 yards and four touchdowns he accumulated last season now that he'll be catching passes from a future Hall of Famer.

"I've always tried to stay away from that just because I'm confident in my ability and I know you know what I bring to the table," Wilson said about setting personal goals for the campaign. "When you have a team like this, a quarterback like that, and great players around you, it's just really do your job and then see where you stack up. I'm confident that if we're getting to where we want to be in the playoffs, I'll be just fine. I don't want to be chasing anything except for being great as a team and the greatness will come along with it."

The "team like this" comment presumably is related to the fact that OddsChecker had the Jets tied for fifth among the betting favorites at +1300 odds to represent the AFC in Super Bowl LVIII. Wilson noted that "starting 1-0 against our archrival" is his main focus ahead of the weekend, but it's clear he and his teammates understand the expectations hovering over them as Rodgers prepares to take his first meaningful snaps wearing a Gang Green jersey.
