Howie Roseman has done it again. The Philadelphia Eagles have the edge rusher who will transform the season for the Birds.
ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter reported that the Eagles have made a trade with the Miami Dolphins. Philly will be sending over a 2026 third-round pick in exchange for edge rusher Jaelan Phillips.
Phillips is in his fifth season in the NFL after being a first-round pick of the Dolphins back in 2021. In his career, he has posted 26 sacks, 177 tackles, 61 quarterback hits, 28 tackles for loss, seven pass deflections, four fumble recoveries, one forced fumble, and one interception. Phillips has recorded three sacks and seven quarterback hits in nine games with the Dolphins.
This was the game-changing trade the Eagles desperately needed to make. Philly has been thin at edge rusher with Nolan Smith, Ogbo Okoronkwo, and Azeez Ojulari on IR, as well as Za'Darius Smith retiring from the NFL.
The good news is that they have seen significant improvement in production from Jalyx Hunt over the past couple of weeks, but it has not been enough to make a noticeable difference. Brandon Graham came out of retirement to help the Eagles off the edge, and he's expected to make his debut in Week 10 against the Green Bay Packers.
It's the best move to make, as Phillips reunites with his old defensive coordinator, Vic Fangio, with whom he worked in 2023 with the Dolphins. Phillips had 11 quarterback hits and 6.5 sacks in the process that year in eight games. Fangio reportedly pushed the Eagles to make the move.
Despite the other trades for cornerbacks Michael Carter II and Jaire Alexander, this is the one that will make the Eagles Super Bowl contenders again. The NFL has been put on notice that the Birds are here to make a run.
