NFL.com has put out another list of teams that may be interested in the Trey Hendrickson sweepstakes, if the Bengals and his agent, Harold Lewis, can't come to an agreement.
As communication appears to have stalled between the two parties, the Bengals have opened their ears to see which teams may express interest in the Pro Bowl pass rusher. NFL.com's Nick Shook listed Philadelphia as one of those options.
"General manager Howie Roseman already swung a deal (for receiver John Metchie) in the last 48 hours and clearly isn't afraid of working out a trade he believes might benefit his team. The Eagles also lost some beef in the offseason, watching Milton Williams and Josh Sweat leave for lucrative deals elsewhere. The Bryce Huff experiment didn't work last season and 2025 is setting up as a season-long test of some of their younger rushers. It might not be the worst idea to add some proven insurance -- and reli able production -- in Hendrickson to a defense that was essential to Philly's run to a Super Bowl triumph last season."
Roseman isn't afraid to make a splash, especially this close to the regular season. He's traded for John Metchie III , as the Eagles look for not only a third receiving option but also with A.J. Brown nursing an injury. He made a trade for cornerback Jakorian Bennett, a young player from the 2023 class, who has been turning heads in camp, possibly enough to push for the CB2 spot. So, why not bring in Trey Hendrickson?
It's been stated before that the Eagles have lost about 50% of their sack total from free agency or retirement, and the trade of Thomas Booker IV for Bennett makes that figure slightly higher. With the youth movement of defensive linemen/pass rushers on the horizon for Philadelphia, the idea of bringing in Hendrickson is highly intriguing.
While the initial reaction from Eagles fans may evoke positive emotions with the idea of a four-time Pro Bowler with 77 career sacks joining the team, the question I ask is what Roseman is willing to give up to bring Hendrickson to the Eagles.
At the age of 31, Hendrickson will likely want to be essentially a one-year rental. Is it the team's responsibility to extend him beyond 2026 or 2027 at the latest? The Eagles invested heavily in the front-seven this year with versatile linebacker Jihaad Campbell , interior defensive lineman Ty Robinson, and sixth-round draft pick Antwaun Powell-Ryland, hoping the youthful combination could elicit some effective pass rush.
While Hendrickson could provide value, the question is whether the dollar amount will match the production of a 30-plus-year-old veteran who has struggled to defend the run and is becoming a one-trick pony at this stage in his career.
